Buying property on a septic tank

I am under contract on a property with a septic tank. Property is built 1979 and does not seem like it has been replaced since.

Are septic tanks a deal breaker for you? What are the headaches you’ve encountered? My research shows its not that much of a hassle to maintain but can get expensive to replace.

Also, I am having issues finding a septic inspector in the Lakeland FL area. Anyone have any leads??

Thank you!

@Bernard Sanga if they were properly maintained it isn’t a big deal.  Make sure the drain field is good as well.

It’s worth the couple hundred bucks to have it inspected.  I have three septic system on my property and have zero issues.
I do have in my lease regarding the septic and to ensure that they know not to flush anything besides toilet paper. Now a days the wipes people use will destroy a septic system. Or using bleach as well is harmful to the good bacteria that the system needs.
