Looking to get in the game as a private lender

Hi everyone! Hope you are all staying safe out there. I am thinking of getting into RE game as a private lender. I have some extra money, have a steady job and I was thinking of safe passive ways to get into this game. Could you advise what should i be looking for in exchange for money I put in? Interest rate? points?

Not sure how this whole COVID situation plays into what I am thinking of doing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
