Investing in the UK from abroad

Hi all,

I am a South African citizen working in the UAE on contract. My wife (who has British citizenship) is with me. We decided that we would like to purchase our next property in the UK as we are looking to move to the UK after the completion of my contract.

Is there any advice on the following:

1. How to search in the UK (apps/forums/sites)

2. Where to search in the UK at the moment (December 2020 onwards)

3. Reliable real estate agents on referral.

We are looking for a small home preferably outside of London city. We are interested in Scotland and England. Ireland (North or South) are options based on recommendation.

We would like to rent it out if we find one prior to moving over and we are interested in starting up a portfolio.
