How do you protect from theft?

Theives stole a fridge and stove out of my nearly completed flip this week. Unfortunately, this was not a planned budget item. I can live with the financial loss, but I hate to think the thieves will do this again to anyone else or to me. It affects my confidence in the neighborhood, so I'd like not only to keep my stuff from being stolen but to ensure the thieves are caught when they do strike - potentially preventing dozens of homeowners from suffering the same fate. One I idea I thought I'm pursuing is putting a tracking device on the fridge/stove, or whatever, until the house is occupied. If the tracked fridge goes missing, then I can 'find my fridge' from my iphone and share with the police the exact whereabouts. Thieves are busted and fridge comes home safely. Has anyone tried this? What are some other techniques you use or would recommed?
