Which Commercial Locks

Question

Hi BP community,

Just curious what commercial locks you all use for your properties. I am looking for a system to use for multiple tenants in a retail/office space. I have seen some with the badges to swipe for access and am leaning to using those but I no nothing about which systems are tried and true. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with @Ronald Rohde, it sounds like simple battery Schlage keypad deadbolt locks would be a good fit.  We've used Schlage BE395 keypads for years on commercial properties, with different codes for different tenants, maintenance personnel, etc., allowing us to easily remove access when a tenant moves out or there is a personnel change. Just change the 9V battery once a year using a good name brand battery and you'll be all set.

Are you looking for common areas or tenant suites? Digital access control is something else, look into Kastle systems, or really any access control which can be on the internet, remote unlocking/locking, etc.

Its going to be expensive. You can do just a manual keypad lock like a Schlage for a common entry as well.

A while back, the neighborhood a large grocery store was in eroded very quickly.

As they began to experience daily robberies and a lot of shoplifting they altered their hours from 24/7 to 7am to 9pm.

They also upgraded the locks on the automatic doors so the emplyees would feel safe after locking time.

A few days later around midnight, "a suspect" was arrested after shattering the glass in the bottom of one of the doors and entering that way.

A cart full of canned hams was also found.

(the store eventually shut down--leaving a vacant building for years)

The moral of the story--good locks work--but weak points will be exploited if they are present.Just my 2 cents.

There is access door at the front of the building that opens into a hallway to the elevator. Want a lock on this exterior door as well as the second floor exterior door at the back of the property. Want easy access for the tenants and ease for myself/property manager to control access. Was thinking that regular key access would be sufficient to the offices on the interior doors but if there is something that is better and is still cost effective would love to hear more. Thanks for the suggestion going to look up that brand now.

+1 to Kastle Systems if you're willing to pay for the comprehensive system. There are competitors out there, too. But, sounds like for smaller scale, go with the cheaper Schlage option.
