Tenants wont leave foreclosed home I purchased

Hello, I need some advice I currently live in NY. I bought a foreclosed home in march, and the tenants refuse to leave/and dont pay. What am i supposed to do? I am trying to start renovations the house is literally TRASHED.  They have been living there sooooo long rent free since the previous owner died. I tried talking to them and they refuse to leave and claim I am ambushing them. I never dealt with this before and need some advice.

I assume there is an eviction moratorium in place where you live?  Offer them cash to move.  That's the only card you hold.  Buying occupied properties at foreclosure is a very risky business - that's why they are so much cheaper than unoccupied properties as a general rule.
