Building Rather Than Buying

I have never seriously looked into building multi-family homes or apartments but I know several people who have and do very well. Does anyone have a solid opinion on this one way or the other?

Thanks!!

Seems to me that building is more for the institutional players that prefer Class A properties for the lower risk and don't mind the lower returns.    Nobody builds lower class properties (around here, at least), so the first thing you need to ask yourself is whether you want to be in Class A, whether you can afford it (all those amenities are expensive!), and if not, what compelling advantage do you have to successfully do new sub-A Class construction to overcome the barriers that others see?
