Is LLC a good idea before buying the first property?
@Andrzej Slugocki welcome to BP! I think it depends your goals. You do not need the added expense and complexity. I have duplexes in my name and do not intend to change that. If I buy another duplex it will likely be in my name. My 12 unit is in an LLC, and if I succeed in finding another one it will be in a new LLC. Either way get a good umbrella insurance policy.
@Andrzej Slugocki - Generally it can wait until the property is identified and at least under contract. Residential lenders may not lend to an LLC, so keep that in mind if you are staying under 5 units.
Contract can also be written with your name or LLC to be named later or assigned as the buyer
