Any other firefighters and first responders out there in real estate investment? I work for Los Angeles County Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in the West Hollywood area. Currently invested in over 700 units of multifamily and always looking to connect with fellow first responders.

I’m a former first responder, 14 years in various roles. Some as a police officer, some as a 911 dispatcher, some as a firefighter/EMT (FF-I, FF-II, then driver-operator on engine company and truck). Even did a part-time stint with AMR on a BLS ambulance (I guess I get bored easily, LOL). Fun times!
Then I decided to turn my side-gig of real estate investing into my full-time focus. That was almost 20 years ago and while I really loved my former vocation, I’ve never looked back. Since that time I’ve raised way over $100 million from investors and bought over a half a billion dollars of real estate. Man, it seems like two completely different lives.
The difference is I worked for a small city (less than 50K people) and you work for a REAL fire department—I grew up watching squad 51 and engine 51 on my tiny four-channel color TV, LOL. You see more trauma in a 24 hour shift than I saw in a year.

It's been some time since I've posted and I hope this finds all of you well and healthy. Unique times.
Again, thank you to everyone who took part in the thread. It's been great to connect with many of you and share experiences and goals.

Hello all, I've noticed this thread has been inactive for some time but I would still like to say hello and introduce myself. I am a firefighter in the FDNY. I have been with them for 5 years. For the first 2.5 years, I was with EMS in midtown Manhattan and now I work in an engine company in Harlem. I am very new to the BP community and even newer to real estate investing. I am currently in the process of searching for a multifamily property that I can househack to get myself started. The market here is very tough for a buyer right now with everything going on in the world especially where I live in the suburbs. Most places I have looked at are priced way above where they normally would be with the mass exodus from the city and into the suburbs. In the meantime, I'll just continue to educate myself and keep looking for that right deal.
Anyway, hope everyone is staying safe out there and making the best of it. Look forward to potentially chatting and meeting some of you.
Great to see the large number for first responders on here, thanks for starting a thread we can all connect through. I am a Fire Captain for CAL FIRE, I work near Yosemite now but have been all over the state including Napa County, Butte County and San Diego. My wife and I live in Napa and are looking to purchase a house hack this year, we invest in gold country and would like to BRRRR another rental property this year as well. Also interested in getting into storage.
Just like most everyone else, I really enjoy my job and where I am at in my career but I would like to supplement CALPERS with REI, and give my wife the option to not work if she chooses.
We are two firefighters and paramedics from Maryland just getting started out. We are working on figuring out what we would like to do and are trying to learn as much as possible and gain connections in the mean time.
Hi Hud, I am a Captain/Paramedic at South County Fire in Snohomish County, WA. We are about 15 miles North of Seattle. I live in Bellingham, WA. I am new to real estate investing. I would like to get into multi family or mixed use commercial. The market around here is very expensive and quite competitive. I keep running properties through the BP calculators and have not found many that cash flow or make sense. If they even appear to look good they are pending almost immediately. Glad to see some first responders on here making a second career and finding investment opportunities.

It appears I am late to the party here! I am a retired firefighter out of Oregon and was a Lt. at the time of retirement. I retired early with the help of real estate. Currently developing multifamily on the West Coast (self storage and apartments) and buying value add mobile home parks in the Midwest. The first fund I setup was called FireFund and was with my fellow brothers and sisters in my department. I'd like to open those opportunities up again at some point to other firefighters so they can learn multifamily investing and it's encouraging to see so many first responders in this thread. Hi!
I just left the Maryland State Police Aviation command working as a flight medic after we had our second baby. I initially got my Real Estate License to buy/ sell flips and get rental properties but my business grew. I enjoy working/ teaching first responders the home buying process whether it is investing or their primary residence plus I am still a proud Trooper wife!

Love this post, and I'm happy to see so many first responders out there investing. I'm a Lieutenant/Driver on the OKC fire department. Been on since 2011. I've browsed BP for years, but just recently my first SFR a few months ago. Currently looking for my next one!
