Storm Damage, Insurance Company, and General Contractor

Hey everyone,

I'm sorry if this has been posted already.  So, my property was damaged by the storm that recently hit SW Florida.  My tenants had to move out due to the damage.  Here's my question.  Is it normal or best business practice to allow the General Contractor to deal directly with my insurance company?  Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
