Looking for off market deals

Hello BP,

I am a new investor and I’m looking for off market deals for my partner and I. I have found some but of course they need extensive work. I’m targeting properties that have been sitting on the market for at least 3 months so I’m hoping there isn’t much competition but some room for negotiations. My question is can I hire a general contractor to walk through the property and tell me what it needs before even getting it under contract (with the owners permission of course)??
