Account Closed
Posted

Hey All,

Looking to buy our first home however got the disclosures - has old knob and tube wiring, has 110v and needs to be updated 220v, new electrical panel, outlets etc?

Looking for just an estimate....suggests, words of wisdom before we commit to making an offer?

Thanks in advance!

Obviously it would depend on the size of the property but I think somewhere around $5,000 would put you in the ballpark. Houses that had knob/tube wiring are old enough to be balloon framed and are thus easier to rewire. (plus many of them don't have any insulation in the walls if at all)

Other factors could affect price such as having to install arc fault breakers, etc.
