Code for Industrial Awning attachment for city of DC ?

Good Evening BP world,

Looking for some guidance on the ability to install an industrial type awning to a residential property brick building in Washington DC.  I can only assume there are permits that need to be pulled (which) but are there other items I need? Is this something that can be executed within a couple months? 

Any assistance is appreciated.
