The sink stopper handle for the pop up came off of the sink. Is there a quicker way to fix it then taking the sink handles off?

This is a bathroom faucet? Did the knob come off the shaft or the shaft came out of the clip? You don't need to remove the faucet to repair this. There is a lever shaft that comes out of the sink drain. That connects to the stopper rod with a clip. Probably the clip came loose and it may be under the sink area.
