Best ways to network?

Question

Hello BP people! I'm looking for advice on how to better network myself and my business. I'm looking to connect with new investors as I'm a licensed broker doing wholesale transactions all around NC.

Meetups just seem to either be people I am already connected with, week after week, or very exclusive. How do you guys find your connections?

@Matthew Rice - there's no "one" way.  As an investor, I email brokers about properties they have listed (even if I'm not interested in that exact property) and sometimes it leads to coffee or lunch.  I reach out to people I know and take them out for a drink or coffee and pick their brains about networking.  You'd be surprised at the number of people you know that have people in their network that would be good people for you to know.... and your friends will usually be happy to connect you.  I asked my lawyer if she had anyone I should meet with.  I did the same with my title agent.  I'm trying to think back over the past 7 or 8 years and I think every single deal has been through networking.  Some have even come from people that were several steps removed from the original person I had a connection with.

Facebook groups are a great place to start! Search for local ones and you will find a wealth of folks wanting the exact same thing. Good luck & happy investing!

I'll echo what others have said by attending REIAs, lunch & learns, FB groups, here on BP, meetup.com, business after-hours, chamber events, BNI, off-brand business networking, etc.  The key is to find the ones that you fit in well with and be consistent.  I have built both my businesses off of networking and being consistent.  It took me years of the above every week to be known as the "Mobile Home Guy" or "The guy always in a neon yellow shirt"  Don't give up.

Bonus tip, when you are at these networking events make it all about the person you are talking to.  How can you add value to their life.  Genuinely be interested in their life.

Hey Matthew,

Have you tried getting involved with financial independence groups, bitcoin meetups or starting your own niche investment group to find more leads?   I have seen many agents in my area find success by creating "new to the community" and job market groups on Facebook to generate leads as well.  May take a while to get going, but once it is set up these could provide endless leads for years to come!

I always attended REIA meetings and real estate investment conferences.  They are a great way to meet people.  To me, real estate is a people business and meeting face to face lets you build those relationships much better than social media platforms.  I would attend any kind of real estate event.  COVID definitely changed the way we do business, but I see more and more network gathering events taking place.
