Where are these Triplexes

Question

Here is a video from years back of a neighborhood of some Fixer triplexes.

A few minutes into the video there appears to be (What I like to think is a landlord (at 4:30) and his son out collecting the rent) , driving along through the neighborhood.

I didn't know Chicago had triplexes like this, three deckers I mean.

I've only seen triplexes like this in Boston.

I just wondered if any Chicago natives knew where this area is or what's become of it???

Also, Many renters seem to have fenced off ther small front yards, and interestingly enough fenced off the verge areas in front of their houses with a shorter fence.

Does anyone know why they have fenced off the verge areas--it does not look like a garden in any of them--do they still do this???

It looks like a 1937 Lincoln 12 cylinder (this is not a cheap car).

@Scott Mac Awesome video. You can pick up a few of the street signs towards the beginning I think I saw one that said 38th and then another that said 29th as they were driving north. Guessing Bronzeville based on that! However, like @Jonathan Klemm mentioned, there are 100 year old 2-4 unit flats all over the city!

I was curious why do you think the son and father are landlords?  I didn't necessarily pick that up from the video?

Chicago has a boatload of 3-4 unit buildings stacked on top of each other.  What exactly do you mean by three-deckers?

II don't think it's AI generated, it seems to be a colorized time corrected old film set into MP4 for the Internet.

Well it looks like an adult driving with possibly a teen and an expensive car through what appears to be apartments to me. That's why I think, well I should say like to think that it's a landlord and his son.

3 Decker- my own personal slag for a triplex with one stacked upon the other, some people call them a 3 flat.

I've seen these in Boston, but I've never really been traveling around Chicago, and I didn't know Chicago had these type of buildings. I've never seen these in Austin.

I've noticed that some of the buildings have low fencing around the verge grass area between the gutter and the sidewalk.

Do you have any thoughts about that???

As for the knee high fence around the front parkway/grass area, I'm not sure about why they have them but it was very common to see them especially in some neighborhoods. You dont see them as much anymore but I guess it was a thing when the buildings were first built. Outside of decorative, I would maybe guess it was to keep animals off the front grass area? maybe horses? not really sure.

Hey Scott,

I would say based on the video it's probably the west loop, bronzeville, and probably the Gold Coast. West loop has had a ton of build up so seeing those 2,3 and 4 flats still around is not common. Gold Coast  blocks like these are still around. I would also say near west side along lake street, but once you get past certain blocks like western the property value can drop.

That bridge is the Chinatown/ south loop bridge I drive past it all the time when I'm heading to my local Home Depot.
