In Dire Need Of Chicago Area Architect

I’m a first-time homeowner in Park Ridge, Illinois, and my dream of renovating my 2021 fixer-upper has turned into a nightmare. I’m reaching out for help—specifically, recommendations for licensed architects or pros who know one in the Chicago area. Here’s the scoop:

Four years ago, I bought my first property, aiming to live in and enhance it as a proud Park Ridge resident. I got carried away with major renovations—think plumbing, electrical, and structural work—only to hit a stop work order early on. I hired an architect, got permits, and pushed forward, but the project stalled. Now, I’m facing a second stop work order because my permit expired, and my architect retired, leaving me with plans that are now useless (Illinois requires a licensed professional’s stamp). To top it off, I’ve learned the hard way that sticking to paint and floors could’ve netted me $200k in equity by now.

This has been a costly lesson in over-improving and navigating Park Ridge's strict codes (2021 International Building Code, local amendments). I'm determined to get back on track by hiring a new licensed architect to update plans, resolve the permit issue, and lift the stop work orders. I'm also scaling back to high-ROI upgrades to finish this project without more headaches.

Can you help? I’m seeking:

Recommendations for licensed architects in Park Ridge or the Chicago area familiar with residential rehabs and local permitting (self-certification program a plus).

Contacts for reliable contractors or expediters who’ve navigated Park Ridge’s Community Preservation and Development Department.

Advice from anyone who’s overcome similar permit or stop work order issues in strict municipalities.

If you’ve got a go-to architect or pro, please share their contact or drop a DM. I’m ready to turn this around and could use the BiggerPockets community’s wisdom to make it happen. Bonus points for tips on avoiding these pitfalls as a newbie rehabber!

Thanks for any leads or advice

My dad has been an architect in Chicago for over 40 years. I can connect you with him to solve this issue. Just add me as a connection if you want.
