I graduated from college with two construction certificates and have the knowledge to build a home from the ground up. I’ve taken courses in building construction, CAD, estimating, bidding, and blueprint reading. I currently have someone who wants me to build them a home, but I’m stuck on how to get started.

I’m looking for advice on where to begin and what steps I should take. My initial plan was to meet with an investor and then move forward with building the home, but I’m unsure if that’s the best approach. I’m open to any strategies or guidance.

While I don’t have much capital, I bring strong construction knowledge and hands-on skills. I just need a solid plan to help me get over the initial hurdle and turn this opportunity into a reality.

Hi There @Maydiray Tate - Wow...you've got some great experience!  Where did you go to school for your construction certificates?

I'd highly suggest partnering with an experienced Chicago builder or general contractor.  Taking your skills from the classroom to the real world takes time, and learning from someone else will accelerate the time it takes!

Also, strongly recommend checking out the local meetup groups: https://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/521-real-estate-events-...

I'd be happy to connect virtually or in person, since it seems we have a lot of commonalities in our backgrounds.
