An outsider but great place to invest

Hi BP,

I have been looking around in CT (upper mainly) and found out that I am the only one that is Asian. I found a great place which I think can generate passive income however am not sure about my surroundings. Will I be the center of attention, or be outcasted? I want to make sure what I am getting into before I take the next approach. Has anyone encountered this  before?

thank you.

Come on!!!

CT is not a rural mountain area.  Of course you will be fine there and comfortable. Are you a American of Asian decent or are you from Asia?
Well welcome/

Why don't you join a local Ct Real Estate group or a Real Estate  Meet Up Group in upper Ct and get to know some Ct people and learn about Ct real estate?

@Barbara G.

 Just wondering because I am used to places that are more culturally mixed. When I visited CT, there were people are the on the street looking at me weird so I was wondering. I don't think curiosity can kill me. And besides maybe it might be a better eye opener to what people think about this or have encountered this.

I do not mean to make it offensive or anything rude.

@Barbara G.

 I will take your advise and look into them. thank you

 Hello Meng W.

I certainly understand your concern. The BIGGERPOCKETS community is a terrific one, to locate those in your area. I am located in Fairfield County. Let me know if you need any assistance in the future.

Hi @Meng W. - what areas of the state, specifically, are you referring to? I do understand the concern, though I believe you'll be fine. Mainly it's a matter of ignorance and simple curiosity in the small towns (population 95% white) around here.

As one small example, one of my best friends is South Korean and she's gotten a lot of dumb questions - including one or two people asking whether she speaks English. (Funny, she grew up in Chile and speaks fluent Spanish so I joked that she should have responded in Spanish and really blown their minds.) The point is, she did fine while living in CT and being Asian didn't hinder her in any way. Yeah, you'll sometimes get second glances that you don't get in Queens. But small towns are also nosier than big cities. haha

And if you were looking to invest in SECT, we have some towns with large Asian populations. But then you'd run into people who might assume you work at one of the casinos. ;-)

Bottom line: make it happen!

I know an investor who also works with a real estate company in CT and likes the fact that he's the only one in his group who is Asian. He says he sees it as an advantage, he could go against the grain and felt that people accepted it because he was "different" (his thoughts, not mine). He says people didn't know what to expect from him and it gave him the freedom to make big moves that really paid off for him. To be honest, I think it was his confidence and work ethic alone that made him successful.

I grew up in suburban CT and found that people were generally friendly, I would imagine that if you are friendly as well, it shouldn't be an issue. As Karin mentioned, you may get some ignorant questions, but they are probably not intentioned to be insulting.
