Excuse Me, Sir. Is Your House for Sale?

Question

So I was going for a walk the other day, hadnt really been out much since the Navy moved me here in January. As I was walking, I am not sure if its a new thought process or what it was but I couldnt help thinking about potental of houses as I was walking by them. There were a few properties that just looked abandoned. One particular that caught my eye was I run down 4 plex. I was thinking about looking in Public records and seeing who owns the property and seeing if they are motavated to sell it.

Anyone have success this way?

As Mike said, I would ask the neighbors. I have knocked on neighbors doors to find out about vacant houses and you will be amazed what they will tell you....people love to gossip and they will probably tell you anything and everything.

Even easier might be to just ask the neighbors about the house.  Often, they can tell you the entire history and maybe even give you a phone number for the owner.

That is a great way to find properties.  I look for grass that hasn't been maintained, also look for vacant tags sticking out of the mail boxes.  Especially if they are no longer orange.

Yes.  This is a very common approach.  I have done it, as have many others here on BiggerPockets.
