Materials for re-habbing ... Buying in bulk ?

Question

Iâ€™m thinking about buying some materials in bulk for the projects I have. Doing that I started researching and came across some nice products from China at good pricesâ€¦I just donâ€™t know if shipping will through the potential gain out the window or if itâ€™s even worth the effort.
            Any other investor/rehabber doing this?

Personally, I just carry all the finishing materials that I use over and over on every house:

- Deadbolts, Door knobs
- Light fixtures
- Fans
- Faucets
- Mailboxes
- Sinks
- Switches, Receptacle
- Switch Plates, Outlet Covers
- Mini-Blinds
- Thermostats
- HVAC Registers, Returns
- Etc

These things don't take up that much space.

The one thing that I do keep in inventory (and buy in bulk) that does take up space is appliances.  But, the savings is certainly enough that it's worth the storage space...

what items do you carry in storage? Flooring, door locks, doors? What about wood floors?

Very true, I carry stock that comes cheap but am quickly running out of room. Some items are better to carry then others.

The bad thing about buying excess materials is storage; then having to dig and find it later.

IMO, buy as needed unless you come across something great (flooring, appliances, door locks, etc). Otherwise, get ready to dig.

Agreed with Jeffrey...

You can generally get about 15-25% off materials at HD if you purchase at least $2500 worth of materials at a time.  And if you buy a lot, you'll find out that HD has a LOT of other rewards programs (including cash-back, gift-cards, free delivery, etc) that most people don't know about...

Just use the bid room at home depot
