What Christmas decoration says about a neighborhood

Question

Last night I was on my way to check on the progress of the drywallers on one of our current rehabs and it had gotten dark by the time I had gotten to the neighborhood. I could not help but notice that almost every other home is decorated with Christmas lights including some of our rentals. That's not the case in every area in Milwaukee and it shows pride of ownership, a sense of community and the simple fact that you can put something pretty outside without it getting stolen. There are many signs that indicate the quality of a neighborhood, I think I will add holiday decoration to my list.

Great assessment for the area your property is in, that does show a lot about the street and neighborhood. This type of holiday spirit goes a long way, and it shows the great personalities of people within that community.

I agree! Our newest tenants went all out this year with decorations at both holaween and Christmas. Aside from that they are the best tenants we have ever had. They pay for repairs without telling me and expect nothing in return. They are just happy to have a home. Pay rent early. They are always so happy and greatful to have a home to live in.

I wish every tenant was like them.

@Marcus Auerbach I was happy to see the other day some of my tenants on the north side of Milwaukee with Christmas decorations as well as adjacent neighbors.

I've always had this hunch that it is a good sign of the health of the block - it shows folks taking proud in their home.  I would guess that even in a rough neighborhood Christmas decorations are rarely stolen as they are not that valuable (maybe vandalized if someone has a grudge against you).
