Any Ex-Realtors?

Question

I would like to know if there are any investors out there who are former Realtors.

I am currently a licensed Realtor, but am considering not renewing my license this January. I do not like being a real estate agent, but I do love  RE investing.

I have had my license 4 yrs, know a lot of agents, & feel I would be very well connected in regards to finding new investment properties. I don't do much in the way of flipping, I am more in the market for rentals.

Yes, I have thought of keeping my license for myself, but it would cost me several thousand a year to maintain.

Would love to hear from someone who has been in this position.

I'm retired and my license will be expiring within the year. I'm not going to renew it. The only value left for me was the referral fees that I collected these past few years and those have pretty much dried up. You can always get the comps and such from any agent (working with the good ones that bring you valuable information will easily be worth the cost). I think you should let it go.

Are you saying that agents in So California should keep
their licenses for all the HUGE foreclosures that are going

I had my license for a few years, the "old boy (and girl)" network is worth much more than the license, and it costs a lot less as well!

I was never a full time agent, I had a job that paid more than the average agent earned, I got mine strictly to get the "inside" during the HUGE foreclosures going on in Houston in the mid-late '80s. Once that faded I let my license lapse.
