Bad Land Investment

Hello, My grandparents made a poor investment in vacant land, and bought useless land in Death Valley, CA. Now it's been a pain to deal with as they are in their 90s. Any advice on how to get rid of it? I'm thinking it's probably not even worth selling it, if closing costs are high in California. Appreciate any advice.
