Repair estimates from afar

How can you accurately estimate repairs from afar? My experience with contractors is that they don’t give estimates unless you know what repairs are needed. If I’m working with a home owner or realtor who does not know what ALL the necessary repairs are, how can I get accurate estimates if I’m in a different city?

Hello Ron,
I´m not from the US and I do the following:
- I check Craigslist for an Handyman and also I check bbb.org for an contractor in this area
- then I call both parties and set an appointment with the seller on two different days (Handyman first day, Contractor second day), they must also take pictures from the propertie for me.
- both give me free estimates and if there a big gap in the estimates i ask WHY
- sometimes I sent an third partie

Its easy and there is no cost for you.

-Uwe
