First time investor

Hello everyone, I would like to know if any first time investor started with small multi family off the bat? Reason is because I have no landlord experience since I’ve always been an apartment renter, I would like to eventually own a 4plex and start at that. I lm a resident in Salem, OR which is not a bad market at all. Does anyone have any experiences they can share with me in regards to investing in there first property and if it’s possible to skip the single family home and got straight to small multi family? I appreciate any feedback! Thank you!
