Co-borrower's? - The good and bad?

I'm a newbie to investing, and I'd like to hear the pluses and negitives of having a co-borrower. Can I get a better rate, etc?

I'm thinking of having my brother/housemate as co-borrower. I know there are potential negitives. But he's really passive and will let me have all the say.
We have good credit, but don't have a lot of income. I've never owned a home before. We'd sell the house in 1 year.
