VA Loan will allow for home purchase with UP TO 4 units

Hi. My husband and I are looking to use his VA Loan for a multi family property. The VA requires that the property have 4 or less units. We are interested in a property that has 5 units. Does anyone have any creative, legitimate suggestions as to how we might be able to circumvent the 4 unit max? We would be willing to convert two of the units into one---if it would make sense (or would even work with the VA Loan). Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
