Self Directed Retirement Fund
I have been hearing and learning more about Self Directed IRAs. My CPA suggested I look into a ROBS account, (Roll Over for Business Startups) but I have to form a C Corp in order to do that. I currently have an LLC.
I am awaiting arrival of Matt Faircloth's book Raising Private Capital, to learn more, though I'd like to know from the BP hive mind your experiences in creatively using existing retirement funds without major risk. I am 60 and so have the ability to control funds in my retirement accounts without fees.
Thank you.

You can use self-directed IRA to invest into virtually anything! That certainly includes alternative investment options such as real estate, trust deeds, syndication, private placements, private lending, tax liens, private company (non-publicly traded stocks).
There is a misconception out there that self-directed IRA can only be invested in real estate. Nothing can be further from the truth. Again, it can be invested into virtually anything, including conventional stocks and mutual funds. The only investments that are disallowed are: collectibles and life insurance. And of course any transaction involving disqualified person (which is yourself and your immediate family members). Aside from those the sky is the limit.
