Experiences with Hard Money Lending - Acting as the lender?

I'm interested to see how many investors out there diversify their portfolio by lending, most likely HML or private lending deals. If you've done so how did that work, did you invest with an existing HML company, set up a private contract with the investor seeking funding, etc? Thanks for any input/experiences.
