Pre-Approval Letter Duration

I understand that a Pre-Approval letter is typically good for 60-180 days depending on the lender, however I feel I don't want to get pre-approved unless I find a great property.

Should I go ahead and get pre-approved and if I don't purchase in that timeframe then simply redo it or is there another way? I also don't want the credit score hit from multiple pre-approvals.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts on this and TIA!
