I would look through reviews on google/biggerpockets. In addition, you can reach out to the people that gave reviews or referrals. That'd be the best way, in my opinion.

@Francisco Milan, hi. You can always check Google reviews, webpage, and LinkedIn profile for reviews. These days, you don’t necessarily need a local CPA. Most CPAs work remotely with real estate investors across multiple states and can still provide highly personalized guidance. Candidly? You shouldn't limit yourself to someone local. A couple of reasons--at least a couple of reasons for that.

One, terrible shortages of good tax accountants exist. You'll be lucky, quite honestly, to find someone good with capacity to accept you as a client.

Two, the workflow CPA and accounting firms mostly use now: Very digital. Unlike in past, you'll probably deliver your documents through an online portal, share access to an accounting system, work via video conferencing, email and telephone calls. It's really a different world now.

This analogy: I remember accompanying my dad, a pediatrician now aged 89, on probably one of his last house calls. (That was where a doctor came to your house basically at the last minute to deal with some emergency.) This was late 1960s. At the time, even then, that was unusual. And a common complaint you'd hear from people was, "you basically can't find doctors willing to make house calls." But the business model needed to change. And so does the way accountants work.

If you really insist on local, I recommend finding your local investor group and asking them for recommendations.

You can check Google and Facebook—those are the most popular places to find reviews for real estate CPAs. But I’d also recommend asking other real estate investors in your local area or even here on BiggerPockets. Online reviews are helpful, but personal recommendations from people you trust who already work with a great real estate accountant go a long way.
