IRS...Uggh!
In the past I have written off a per diem expense for both lodging and food when my husband ( the single owner of an llc) travels from Florida to Michigan to work on our business. He stays with friends and gives them some cash, but they don't claim it as income. My tax adviser now showed me that owners of companies are not allowed to use per diems and must prove all expenses. However, when I look at the IRS publication on per diems it says self-employed persons can write off food per diems. I guess that's why I pay someone else to do my taxes...I'd go crazy!
