How serious is section 8 fraud

Question

How serious is fraud taken in section 8 rentals. I know of someone that has had people living with them and paying rent. When reported it was brushed off. Is this the normal response from local offices or no.

i should clarify. I'm not looking at doing fraud I know of a situation that it is going on and I was wondering if it is normal for it to just be brushed off like it was when I tried to report it. I have a property that hopefully will be back on the market within a year depending on how things go and I have considered accepting Section 8 with that said I'm hesitant if fraud is just brushed off when reported. So I'm trying to find out is this the norm for it to be just brushed off or was that rare situation and in the situation that I'm aware of should I report it to a higher level or just shrug my shoulders and walk away

Fraud IS a fraud (section 8 or not), don't do it! If someone you know is considering it - tell them not to do it. The truth will eventually come out, it is not worth it.

In my experience it's up the landlord to enforce it. The lease would/should have the occupants listed on it. That lease is with the section 8 office. It is then up the landlord to enforce the lease. If they choose not to, then section 8 doesn't meddle either. I know it's not right but it's government. I especially think they wouldn't want to act on a situation where they are getting in the middle of a familial situation. BTW it's also very hard for a landlord to prove additional occupants and the courts are resistant to evict for additional occupants according to the attorney I use.

My advise is to let it go.

I have found when communicating with section 8 it is best to copy as many people as possible on an email - I mean no less than 5 - not everyone will ignore it knowing that so many others are aware.

when you called in the fraud, who did u speak to? if it's just one of the office workers, that's probably the reason why. i suggest you talk to a fraud department or higher authority than the workers. no usually it is not handled by being "brushed off"

I can't stay away seeing as it's my ex-wife and we have a child together I tried to report this once before and they brushed It Off and they've been doing this for 5 years or more with multiple people living there paying them rent so I'm just trying to figure out if this is the way Section 8 normally handles things or if they actually take these reports serious

Most people who act fraudulently are eventually caught, convicted, sued, or all of the above. As importantly (or more), their reputations have the sort of stain that is often indelible.  Stay away from them.
