Use a comma in LLC name, or not?

Question

I know that states will allow you are to do it either way:

ABC PROPERTIES LLC or ABC PROPERTIES, LLC

This might seem like a strange question, but is there an advantage to doing it one way or the other? On my state's div. of corporations website, it seems like the majority of businesses use the comma.

A bank will not distinguish between ABC PROPERTIES LLC or ABC PROPERTIES, LLC. Your bank will also take checks for ABC PROPERTIES.

A comma is not mandated by any state law.  Bottom line - it's a matter of personal preference.  The more traditional format is to use a comma. The more contemporary way is to not use a comma.

The important question is how you register your LLC with the state.  Your state will approve your company name exactly as written.  You should use that name consistently.  While the difference may appear trivial to you, in the legal universe it could prove to be significant. :)

I do not believe their is an advantage one way or the other; however, your LLC's name looks better with the comma.

Most states are like NC, and reserve/define certain words that companies (LLCs) can use. Banks and financial institutions reserve the word "bank", etc. The words "capital" and "group" are acceptable. E.g. "Capital Ford" on Capital Blvd or "1st American Investment Group"... random example.

Thanks again. Another silly question: some of the names I wanted to use have been taken already. Is there any issue with using words like "capital" (ex: "ABC Capital LLC") or "group" (even though I am only one person) in the LLC name instead of "properties"? (I'm aware that you aren't allowed to use "bank", "insurance" and some other terms).

^ OK thanks. So it sounds like the tenants are a non-issue as long as I remember to use it correctly and the title and insurance companies, etc. record it correctly.

Thanks. I know that I will remember to use it correctly. But if the tenant writes the rent check and adds a comma by mistake is that going to be an issue?
