Primary home tax exemption

In order to get capital gains tax exemption for owning a home as a primary residence for 2 years does that home need to be Homestead? I have a more expensive property that I'm moving out of when I'd like to leave at Homestead because it's been in Homestead for years when the taxes would jump a lot. I will be living in the new property but didn't plan to Homestead it. Will that affect my ability to sell it in two years and claimed it was my primary residence? The only thing I have showing I live in the property is a power bill. Any advice would be
