Self-directed IRA question

Mo Terazzo
Posted

I am the working spouse with an employer-sponsored 401k. My wife is a non-working spouse with a self-directed IRA that she invests in real estate with. I want to make an annual allowable spousal IRA contribution of $7,000 on her behalf. Is it as simple as writing a check directly into her self-directed IRA or must there be a designated, separate spousal IRA?
