Finding a good CPA for STR

Morris Szyslak
Posted

Hi,

W2 employee starting my first fulltime STR in November 2025. I have done a fair amount of research and planning, but at this point I really need to link up with a CPA. I will also likely use one of the online cost seg studies.

Searching locally, I don't really know how to find someone who will be knowledgeable specifically on the STR strategy for W2 earners.

There are several CPAs who specialize in short-term rental tax strategies. It's best to talk with one who's active in the STR space and understands how to properly document your time so you can qualify as an active investor rather than passive. You should also discuss whether a cost segregation study would make sense for your property and which firm might be the best fit for that.
