I built a tool to audit-proof my REPS hours (Replace your spreadsheet)
Hey everyone, Amir here from Apex Reserve Group.
I work in Cost Segregation, so I see the backend of this industry every day. The #1 thing that keeps me up at night?
Seeing investors spend thousands on a tax study to unlock huge savings, but then track the "Material Participation" hours to defend it on a messy Excel sheet.
Here is the hard truth: If the IRS audits you, a spreadsheet is often a liability. If the file metadata shows you created the log months later (instead of daily), they can argue it’s a "retroactive guesstimate" and disallow your hours.
I wasn't willing to let our clients take that risk. So we built a tool to fix it.
It’s called RepStatus.io.
We built it internally for Apex clients, but we decided to open it up to the BP community because everyone needs this protection.
It handles the things Excel can’t:
- The "Logged At" Proof: Unlike Excel, where you can type any date you want, our IRS Defense Package prints the server-verified "Logged At" timestamp next to every entry. It proves you were tracking in real-time.
The System Hash: Every report includes a unique cryptographic hash to prove the log is a "Verified Contemporaneous Record" that hasn't been altered.
The "Spouse Trap": If you file Jointly, it tracks the 750-hour test separately (required) but pools your hours for the 500-hour test (allowed).
The Offer for BP: I’m not asking you to buy it blindly.
1. Free 7-Day Trial: I opened up a full-access trial so you can test the mobile logging and see the PDF export yourself. No commitment. 2. Apex Client Bonus: If you end up needing a Cost Segregation study, we’re giving away 1 Year of RepStatus for FREE to anyone who uses Apex Reserve Group.
Check it out here: RepStatus.io
Let me know if you have questions about the "Spouse Rule" or the logic—happy to answer them in the comments!
