Buying at Auctions

I was looking for some information on buying at auctions. I tried the search engine, but it crashes and says site to busy. What I am confused about is buying a foreclosed property and having additional liens against the home. I was told once that you would need to work with an auction house to ensure that the property has clear titles. I am interested in buying from any good online site maybe Auction.com. Any info you can give me about the cons or what to look out for with online auctions or auctions period will help.
