Capital or current expense

Hi all,

I recently had ice damming at my property, and have been quoted approximately $12 k to repair the roof and siding.
Two questions:

would this be considered capital expense or current repair?

If I’m only paying $1000 out of pocket (deductible). Confirming I can still claim the $12 k?
