Execution of Wages against Landlord
Hello all,
I am new to this forum and have a difficult situation that I was hoping to get some perspective on:
A previous tenant recently fought a civil case against one of my property owners and the court declared that since I own the property, I am liable for the judgement for roughly $4500. I live outside the state where the property is located and now the tenant's lawyer is threatening to collect on the judgement if I don't pay in full through "Execution of Wages". I looked it up and looks like what is used by a landlord to collect money from a tenant that is owing rent.
Is it a possible avenue that I need to defend or are they liable to succeed with this action against me? I technically am earning income from rent, but can the court garnish that money?
Property Info:
Apartment is in NJ, I live in Virginia
I have banks in both states (bank levy is a risk as well)
Previous renter also resides in NJ currently and looking to file in civil court
