Roof replacement cost Alabama

I am looking for information on the typical cost of replacing a roof for a 1,350 square foot, single-story SFH in Alabama. I received a quote for $6,300 for a wood shingle 3-tab roof. Is this a reasonable price?

LOL ... I knew SOMEone would bite on the mistake that Greg wrote at first (about "wood" shingles)... sorry Jim, you did it! lolol

I believe Greg was referring to "wood looking" shingles, commonly known as dimensional shingles, or architectural.  BUT, then he talks about using 3-tab ones (not dimensional) sooo.... perhaps he was only talking about Wood type "coloring."

IF Greg was talking about "removing" wood shingles then rebuilding back ... that's a whole new topic! (to include moving/removing the lath boards, new drip edge, valley metal, sheathing (w/radiant barrier), re-doing the penetrations through the roof (if gas) etc etc etc)

To Greg: Whatever the case, see what the extra charge is to use a dimensional shingle instead of 3-tab. (an upgrade from the 3-tab shingles)  IF the slope is only 4/12 or 5/12, then yes use the 3-tab ones, as they will shed water off the roof on lower slopes than the dim sh's will.

IF you are in a snow laden area, then you MUST include using ice/water barrier around the perimeter lines as well. (not just in the valleys etc)

Costs... they are going to be different in different areas of the county.  So what normal here in the Dallas, TX area may be high or low for your area.

Get quotes from 2-3 LOCAL owner/operated Roofing Companies, and see which proposal best fits what you are looking for. :)
