Junk car parked in the back

I know that looking at someone's car is a great indication of how tidy of a renter they are going to be. Well, I had a gall drive up for a showing in a nice Suburban with her mom and we ended up renting to them (divorced daughter with two small kids and her mother.) The minute after they signed the lease her mother parks a beat up car with a missing tire in their allotted parking spot! This is a classy historic neighborhood in a great part of town. I do not want junk cars parked in the lot. I spoke with the gall and she told me she was saving money to get it fixed. Anything else I can do at this point? Thanks so much for any advice. I've been on BP for a few weeks but this is my first post.

Where I am it's not against the law to park non-operational vehicles in an off-street designated parking space or in a driveway. If that's true where you are, you are in the position of creating policies or "house rules" after the fact.

I'd be matter-of-fact and tell her that no storage is allowed in the off street parking spaces and that 3 days is your max. I'd follow up by sending the same statement in writing, with clear deadlines.

Hopefully she'll cooperate. By not including this in your lease, you might be relying on hope instead of a contractual agreement.
