Lease Transfering Procedure

Posted

Hello Bigger Pockets Community,

I have a Tennant looking to move out in May and she wants to have a family member take over her lease. What is the procedure for transferring a lease to someone else? Will I need to write up a new contract or is it a matter of amending the current lease. Please let me know what steps need to be taken. Thank you very much!

@Brice Alef-Torrisi it's a legal mess to transfer a lease to another tenant!

Ask any attorney, they will tell you just start a NEW lease.

Be sure to screen the new tenant(s)!
