Hi,

I have property built in 1971. It has old electric panel. Also some wires are not up to code. How important to upgrade electric panel. How much it cost to upgrade. Is it necessary to upgrade electric circuit panel and also wires and breakers etc. everything. I am attaching picture of my panel. It has one column of switches not 2 column like new circuit panels. What are pros, cons, risks of keeping same panel or upgrading to new electric panel. Please advise

If the panel brand is a Zinsco or FPE (Federal Pacific Electric) they are known to be unsafe and should be replaced. Breakers, wall outlets, and switches all age and should be replaced if original.

Poor electrical systems are a major cause of fires. Older systems in particular are often modified or extended over the years, improperly. Proper grounding, and GFCI circuits near water sources are very important for safety.

Have a licensed Electrician evaluate the entire system and advise you, but based on the photo and age, I would be advising my Client to update system and remake all connections.
