Renting a bedroom problem

I couldn't find the information I was looking for so I figured someone here has to know! I have a friend who is renting a bedroom in San Jose, CA. Her landlord lives in the rest of the house. She wants to get a new lock on her bedroom that would require a key. Her landlord is fine with this but they want a copy of they key and the ability to enter the room whenever they want. I know if you rent a house a landlord needs to give you 24hr notice before coming by: is this different when you rent a room? I'm just trying to figure out what her legal options are. Thanks!!

if she does not like the terms,  she can move out.  if he violates the terms,  she can take him to court.  it does not take a brain surgeon.
