Security deposit question

I had some tenants move out. They were there for a little over a year. The security deposit was $550. The carpet was brand new,  is now trash. I read carpet has a 3 year lifespan. So when I get the quote for the carpet, do I then pro rate it? Also what is fair for the place being left dirty?

I walked through  and texted saying I see more than the security deposit  in damages. He texted back that he wanted an itemized list.  I'm certain  that the carpet pro rated will be more than the deposit.
