Tenant occupied unit water damage...
I just found out that the unit above my rental had a flood couple of weeks back and now my unit is showing signs of potential leaks in ceiling and floor. My deductible is 1k. Do you think I should talk to owners of above unit for compensation and keep insurance companies out, similar to car accidents and insurance claims? Tks

No, you're not stuck with the $1000, the one that caused the damage is liable for all the damage. Talk to the upstairs owner and document everything.
