Professional or out of control?

Question

I am the property manager and I am the 'new' person in the office. They allow tenants to do sooo many things I am appauled by. Today... a tenant comes walking in with a freezer full of food and wanted to store it in our freezer, saying the leasing agent told her she could.

When I tried to talk to her about this, she told me that i was "overthinking" this and worrying about stuff. I thought if our lights go out, we could be buying this womans food.

Where do you draw the line between professional and just allowing all kinds of things to go on?

This was my thought. If you are the property manager, what do you think? It doesn't make any difference what the tenant thinks, unless the tenant has some kind of weird special permission from the property owner. Otherwise, it sounds like your call.

Also, not trying to be too harsh but you might want to pay close attention to this leasing agent, if she's letting a tenant store food in the freezer lord knows what else she let's slide...

@Lisa Jones this is your ship now. If you don't want it to happen don't let it. If brought about nicely and with reason change can be great! If you're the property manager this is now YOUR job, YOUR money, YOUR property!

Sounds like you're in for a rough ride. I'd put in my 2 minutes notice and find an office that's more professional.

@Lisa Jones Hey Lisa, The line is drawn right before tenants bring in freezers full of food into the office LOL!!!  That tenant crossed the line!!!  interested to hear about how things turned out.  Best of luck to you.

Sounds like the leasing agent is testing you and if your her manager I'd let her know that this is the last time tenant xxx is going to have that option... Yes if it's an emergency and her fridge went out and is waiting for a new delivery otherwise.. over accommodating and sounds goofy..

Keep a list of odd and out of bound type salutations and compare with company policy and write up the employee for the infraction if your permitted to do that.. if a verbal, correction to policy isn't enough.

But watch your back,, they could be making a list about you also..

@Lisa Jones If I was a property owner I would hate to learn that this was going on.  This to me shows that they will be willing to bend rules for tenants.
